Woh College Ki Masti

Woh College ki Masti.....

College days, most memorable days of life so far.... You spend 4 years at that very place and still ask for more, "Yeh dil mange more”. There are so many memories, so many thins to share that i could write a book on it. So I plan to write only the uncovered things.
I took admission in an engineering college called JIET and was the first batch and amongst the first few students of it. I still can’t imagine what huge risk it was at that time. So dumb was I that i never visited the college campus before actually the first day of classes. I somehow had a lot of trust on my mentors who suggested me to take the admission. The full first year was total masti and was spent in getting used to engineering studies and people around. I remember the first class I bunked in college was towards the end of first year and that too was like after the lecture I informed the lecturer that i was in the college and have bunked ur lecture. The lecturer too bedazzled by this behavior and couldn’t resist smiling. The second year was the one when we were actually with the people of our branch. In our university the first year has a common course and the branch specific course starts from the second year onwards. The second year marked our quarrel with one of the lecturer..She was a young lady just finished engineering and was not good at her subject. So as college students we boycotted the class and demanded the change of faculty. I somehow sympathized with the faculty and was in favor of giving her another chance, but my batch mates were not... and I could not convince many. Another big incident of the second year happened was when one of the brats of our class was resticated for ragging a junior. We all came out of our classes and demanded the management to take back the punishment that we were able to do...
But form then on the journey was mostly happy-happy.... I made myself comfortable with most of the students of my branch as well as with others. I was in the good books of the faculty and the management as well and most importantly we were the trend setters. Be it fairing out the tests or bunking the class or completing the assignments before time, be it discussing or rather arguing with the teachers on some concepts, be it playing in the labs. All fights, all outings, all masti we set the trend for everything...The weirdest trend we set was to get out of the lecture theatre after every lecture of 5-10 minutes. Our teachers tried a lot to change this habit but in the end they had to accept it and started coming to the class 5-10 min late.
One thing not many people know is that I used to give pet names to a lot many people in the college and used to get them popular... I once had a huge fight with one of the college mate for that. That fight was one of the most furious moments of my college life. But that’s ok .Once I took part in a singing contest in the college and that turned out to be the most embarrassing moment of my college life.More than that there were many proud moments like being one the first people to get placed from the college, being one of the first students who started giving presentations on engineering concepts, the first to start doing GD's on our own in the free time in the college. A lot many things....
Apart from everything the college gave my some of my best pals and a bunch of very sweet people...Some who can do anything for you even at dear cost, someone who is always there to boost you up, someone who is so practical that actually teaches you how to
live, someone who is so straightforward that will tell you all ur shortcomings with one aim- your betterment, someone who count on you so much that gives u self - confidence, someone who is so sweet to u that u never need sugar in ur tea, someone who is always there in your worst times... Hey u all lovely people you will know what I am talking about as soon as you read this.
Okk let me get out of the senti mood. The amount of leg pulling we used to do was immeasurable. But the fact remains that most people did not react in public, but internally we were like killing the person who mocked us.... that’s how it used to be. Not to forget those memorable so called "educational trips". Only we know how much padhai we used to do on it... we went on two trips one to Udaipur and another one to Ahmadabad.
In all if I look back I have utter satisfaction with my college life .It was awesome, superb, mindblowing, fantabulous.....
Now I would like to give a pause to this for the time...but one thing I have not written about is the more "fishy" part of my college life, so wait for it people.....

Cheers,
YoursRohit!!!

PRAVESH...

An Experience.... A fun filled learning experience.

7th September... a hot and humid afternoon of Mumbai, I along with some other people from the office left for a so called out-bound training program of Mastek (the IT organization for which I work), called PRAVESH, which was to be held at a remote location of Raigad...The company’s motto behind the program is to make a Mastekeer out of us. Many of my friends have spoken about the program before; also some of the people of the group which went for the program probably knew exactly what’s going to happen, about the tasks to be given etc... I somehow didn’t want to find out about all the stuff coz I didn’t want to miss any bit of adventure or learning which was abt to happen... I was also excited to meet new people, I thought its going to be a little bit tough, but if u understand that everybody is unique and different, then it acts like glue amongst unknown faces... And at the end of it each person of the group turned out to be fantastic. Though some people may not agree to it but I felt so.
With all these we set out for Raigad. The journey towards the place was just about fine, nothing great abt it. When I reached the place, called 'empower activity campuses', I had a vibe ke ‘boss, this is going to be amazing’. Although some of my friends were skeptical about the place at first, but I was sure that the fell it’s gonna turn the other way in a little time. Then I met some of the people who had come from the Mastek's Pune office to join us, I had a good interaction with those people first up. Then we had our place to stay... "A Tent”, my fist experience of this kind... but luckily the tents were good.
The next day was the start of it all... The facilitator called Marc impressed one and all in the first session of the morning called "the orientation". That session built upon the feel that the program is going to be fantastic. Then came a series of tasks and after each tasks we had a dissection of each and every situation that occurred during the task. I won’t go into the philosophical details... While performing each task I felt like a Roadie and felt part of the IT fraternity when we discussed abt the tasks... Rains during the tasks made them all the more difficult but much more enjoyable... The camp-fire and small fun games at the end of a tiring day were awesome and the volley-ball matches in the dim light were fabulous. A complete fun filled day after a long-long time.
The next day brought the best experience of it all... the task given to us was to make a raft by ourselves and then take the raft into the water. We actually landed up doing river rafting. This is an amazing stuff for someone like me who doesn’t know how to swim. The success of the task gave immense pleasure, also because I was the leader of one of the groups. The same afternoon, i.e.9th Sept, It was time to say bye to Pravesh and to share some memories with the group and with a warm smile everybody was heard saying..."Stay in Touch". I could have never expected out of me that I m saying it to people whom I have known for only 2 days. That was actually the impact of the whole thing.
Finally we were heading back to Mumbai and it seemed to happen in a flash of time. I was aware of the fact that the life would be in the same old routine the next day onwards, but nevertheless the trip would remain in the subconscious...What I pondered over after that was the learnings from “Pravesh” and found out certain things for myself. So, that would complete the essence of “Pravesh” from the organization as well as my point of view!!!

Cheers!!!

My first project in the IT industry

My first actual work in the IT industry...

BT-SPINE-ERS is the first project I worked for at Mastek, rather the first project of my life...
So, the attachment is bound to be there. A lot many things, for the first time and a group of people to work with. I made a number of friends...
Amit - the coolest customer of them all, captain, sarkar and a lot of names ,I don’t even have any idea off and a hell lot of girl friends , no one would ever imagine... but a very good person overall...Riddhisha...one of the most helpful people I have met in my professional career so far... She is the one who would listen to my trivial work related issues and help me out any which ways... I learnt a lot of project processes fro her which no one would have ever tried to tell freshers...Yash, our handsome hunk, he really justifies the name which I have given him... He most intelligent of us in the project. He knows his work extremely well and would never succumb to fresher. He is now ready to take on the role of supervisor...Nida, the one whom I have troubled the most.... those missed calls (on Extn and cell phone), those puzzle questions, but nevertheless she takes all the stuff sportingly. Santosh, the complete IT professional. Any technical problem I have I rush for his help. He has made me aware of lots of things out here.. He is the one whom I count on any time. Apart from his excellence at work he is a person with purest of hearts .I definitely learnt a lot many things from him. He is the one person i am going to miss at work when I leave this project. Yogesh, the king... He is like... live life king size... Never ever shows his worries, and tries to bring easiness even in crunch situations....Roger, my r n d friend, the r n d phase which went for more than 2 months... Of all these friends I made during the course of working at ERS there was one who was a friend even before that... Shailja, the one with whom I had the maximum work compatibility... The one whom you I would trust at work. She would always speak up in case of any issue and we would discuss those in detail and try to come out with the solution which would be best for our work... the 'team-work' which we say.
Not to forget, it was the trust and support from my project-leader Tushar who guided me at all the possible stages. There were other people in the project which I did not get a chance to interact much but all were good to me.
There were some cool times i spent with these lovely people be it lunch parties at spices, v-kitchen ,the village or be it the bowling party or the movie trips with the so called "bachacha party of ERS".. Other amazing thing was the tea party each day .The loveliest concept of all.
Not to forget the difficult times which taught the most, be it the heavy meetings or working late -night, but that’s all part and parcel and the most special things are infact the ones which teaches you the most, by hook or by crook!!!
Overall it was one of the most satisfying journeys for 8 months, more so coz it was the first of this kind in my life... Now moving out of ERS I would like to thank everybody for having me in ERS and for this opportunity to work with you .All i would take from ERS are some friends, some relations and lots of memories.... All the best to all and ERS!!!!
