Hello!!!!!! I am not talking about the movie “A Wednesday” , but a Wednesday of a different nature and attitude….A Wednesday of togetherness….
It was a fine Wednesday morning…. As usual I reached office at 8:45 in the morning… I had been suffering from cough the other day but this morning I was feeling better and chirrupy as always. People had started coming to office as always... It was as usual, except ERS (name of my project) team… After a long –long time we had planned for a team lunch. Actually it was a party given to us by our “Project Leaders”.
I sensed enthu among the team-mates. Actually all outings are cherished by our teammates as it gives a chance to get closer, more so this time because we have grown as a team, the size has approximately doubled in past few months.
We had planned a “trip” to a restaurant nearby called “The Golden Punjab Restaurant”. The morning started with the booking at the hotel and placing the order for the starters. Roger and Yash (two of our friends) took that responsibility. The day before there was a sheet circulated within the team to know the choice of each (veg, non-veg and sea-food) and had booked for a mini-bus and had called it at 12:15 in the afternoon (way before our usual lunch time). In IT terms I called the whole process as the requirement gathering and freezing phase marked by the start of design. At around 11 in the afternoon there was a mail saying that the design has been made and we got to start the execution at 12:30. (Oops… I am sorry for getting into technical terms..Kya karoon software engineer hoon naa, I keep finding such weird analogies).
Well let’s move on: Our bus arrived on time and we started getting into it .By the time everybody was coming we had a short discussion on “IT for terrorism” and thinking as to what IT can do to enhance our security. We eventually left at 12:45, once our new captain “Roger” had made the head count. Ohh I forgot to introduce our NEW “captain”. The journey was expected to be of 15-20 minutes and Santosh, aka Santi had to get down on the way to pay his electricity bill and was to join us at the restaurant. During the short journey we were discussing our favorite ads
Now then we were there. More than the party, the feeling of togetherness was special and everybody had a soothing expression. The first incident in the hotel was of the “Saint Gobain Glasses” (??I hope we remember). We all took our places after initial exchanges and Santosh Sir taking a place in the table at the center. Unfortunately we all could not sit together, because all our tables could not be joined. Nevertheless we all were comfortable and with complete ease had our lunch. We talked, laughed and enjoyed a lot. You don’t get a chance to talk so freely with ur peers, coz at the work place sometimes u r stressed, sometimes busy and various other factors. We ate lot of dishes and kept giving our opinion about every dish. In short we were in full masti mood.
With all this masti we finished our lunch and got back to our buses. Fortunately, unfortunately the bus wasn’t there and we had to wait for the bus. Some of us even thought of walking all the way to office. For the first time I had interaction with a relatively new member of our team, Sunil. It’s an irony but I met him, rather talked to him for the first time. 10-15 minutes later our bus arrived and alas we all were heading back to office. I could very well see the calm but content faces when we were getting into the bus.
The journey back was relatively quiet, may be coz everybody was preparing to get back to work. Finally we were back to our office, on to our seats and into our work. The most amazing thing is that everybody got engrossed into their respective work as to nothing has happened. The best part of the IT professionals is that whatever is the situation we live to our fullest and do not let one thing get over the other. i.e. have a blast when on an outing and work to ur maximum when in office, that is the one thing I like the most about my work-culture and religiously follow the same….
“Long Live IT”
Cheers …
